Rock Mountain texture!

One of the worst elements of my old materials were the tiny rocks I was using for the mountains. I thought I definitely needed something more robust and big, therefore I decided I’d take my rocks I used for the rocks in my scene, scale them up and make a rock texture out of them! I used the same technique I did for the gravel/ ballast, but on a larger scale.


This was my first attempt, creating good shapes but some strange artifacts appeared, so I tried again with a little more detailing this time.


A little more detail worked out great, and with this mesh I baked out an Ambient occlusion map to superimpose over an albedo:


It worked out great as I imported it in, rock formations looking pretty solid:
