Adding life to the Icon

I was thinking about how to add some movement and life to the Icon so i looked back at the original Silk image used as its inspiration.

The shape is very fluid and serene with silk like qualities (Hence the name). Last time I tried to create theis fluidity with thick polygons, but I thought it might be worth trying with planes alpha masked to look like an effect.


I created some basic strands and Uv’d them to overlap at the ends, such as shown below. I then painted an alpha map to create the shape I wanted:


I then created an albedo of pure blue, and used the nodes inside Unreal Engine to add opacity, luminosity and shine.
